WILLIAMSPORT VOLUNTEER FIRE – EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
PART-TIME DRIVER/FIREFIGHTER
Williamsport Volunteer Fire – Emergency Medical Services Inc. is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Driver / Firefighter.
Williamsport Volunteer Fire – Emergency Medical Services Inc. (WVFEMS) is a combination department, of approximately 100 members, which provides 911 emergency services to the citizens of the Town of Williamsport, surrounding areas of Washington County, MD and Berkeley County, WV.
WVFEMS responds to approximately 2500 incidents per year. Fire services are primarily provided by volunteer members, with emergency medical services provided through a combination system. WVFEMS operates an engine, rescue and truck company to meet our service delivery requirements.
POSITION
Part-Time Driver / Firefighter (exempt from benefits), hours vary based off of demand and availability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
21 years of age or older.
Have a high school diploma or GED.
Valid Maryland Class B commercial or non-commercial driver’s license or other state equivalent. A Valid Class A commercial or non-commercial driver’s license is preferred.
Five years experience driving Class A fire apparatus (pumper)
Legally eligible to be employed in the United States.
Meet insurability requirements of the County’s insurance carrier.
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
Candidates must pass:
• A background check
• Washington County fit-for-duty physical (or have current valid fire department physical)
• Drug and alcohol test
MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS
MFRI pump operator or equivalent certification
Copy of “Full Term” driving record from Motor Vehicle Administration
Firefighter II
Hazardous Materials Operations
Rescue Technician or equivalent certification
Truck / Aerial Apparatus Operator
Current MD EMT
Current CPR / AED certification
Minimum NIMS Operations level Course 100,200,700,800
ABOUT THE POSITION
This is a part-time position requiring manual, and technical work in emergency services. Duties may include firefighting, technical rescue, and emergency medical service delivery. Duties and responsibilities may be of a hazardous nature, requiring the highest level of sustained exertion and agility.
In addition to emergency response activities, employees will be required to maintain a state of readiness of apparatus. Complete duties, responsibilities and expectations for this position will be reviewed during the interview.
Employees are required to maintain required licenses and certifications at their own expense.
Employees are provided uniforms and Personal Protective Equipment by the department at no expense to the employee.
Selected applicants will be given an interview. Upon completion of the candidate interviews, recommended Driver / Firefighters will be presented to the Board of Directors for final approval prior to final position offering. If needed, a successful applicant will complete a fit-for-duty physical, including a drug test. The WVFEMS will cover costs for these requirements (does not include travel expenses).
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE
Part-Time Driver/Firefighter may be scheduled for up to (3) 10 hour shifts per week, and sometimes more or less depending on operational needs, limiting each PT employee to 1508 hours annually.
